BMW Sport
Karl Friedrich Rapp is the founder of BMW – one of the largest global companies making big cars. BMW, Bayerische Motoren Werke (Bavarian Motor Works) was founded in 1916 as successor to the Rapp Motor.
Many people think that the logo of BMW comes from turning a propeller White sees the blue sky background. This may be so but in reality we know that this is also white and blue flag of Bavaria – the largest state of Germany. The state capital of Munich and is where, today, we find BMW headquarters.
In 1916 with the founding of the company won a contract to build V12 engines. These engines were about to be used in engine building Austro-Daimler. These V 12-cylinder is first used in aircraft, which is the original design of the BMW. Given the time where the company was founded it was very likely for them to continue so.
However, in 1919, after the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles, aircraft production in Germany was prohibited and that quickly changed the policy of BMW. They began making brakes for rail transport. Shortly after that BMW has managed to design a motorcycle engine that was used to create a motorcycle called the model name of Victoria. However, Victoria was not built by BMW, but by another company in Nuremberg.
In 1924, BMW has made a model of a motorcycle which was the first to be built – the R32. It was a turning point in the history of BMW, as it is a significant achievement and for decades used its technology – engines of 500 cc air cooled. Shortly after BMW has added an innovation – the axis. He came to replace the chain rear wheel drive and has become a trademark of BMW for some time.
In the German town of Eisenach in 1927 began production of Dixi – under license but only a year after BMW Dixi company was purchased and began mass production with the model Austin Seven.
When World War I began BMW took its place in this world because of the German army's motorized division. It is used together with BMW R75 BMW R12. After the war, BMW is not was able to recover quickly because of the need to rebuild the factory in Munich. After that, when Allied restrictions applied BMW was banned for three of long years that the company was forbidden from producing motorcycles and cars until 1948 until 1952.
In 1951, the Bavarian company has been able to find all marks and it appeared that this was finally able to recover and leave the remainder. In 1959 Herbert Quandt became the "wheel" which turned the BMW around because declined to an agreement with Daimler-Benz and soon after it increased its stake in the company to BMW 50%.
The name is Kurt Golda said the man who led to Quandt take this step and the same year, BMW has begun producing the BMW 700 which is based on the BMW 600. This little car is used for the 2-cylinder, air cooled engines and a few years later, he changed his name to "LS". Coupe and Cabriolet some series have also been made.
In 1963, BMW offers a dividend to shareholders and in 1966, Munich plant had reached its maximum capacity and BMW bought Hans Glas GmbH. This allowed the plants to use BMW Dingolfing and Landshut.
With a little style new data provided by Bertone in 1972, began production of the new BMW 5 Series and in subsequent years, the company achieved a breakthrough in the market. During 6 years under the leadership of Bernd Pischetsrieder BMW was able to extend its agreement on the market through the purchase of British Aerospace, Rover Group. Rover Group's story begins in 1986 to BMW ownership of the company was able to accomplish many things, like the Rover 400 in 1990.
However, the Rover was sold to Phoenix Venture Holdings and Ford Motor Company because of the losses a few years for BMW. BMW has begun production outside of Germany in 1994. The new plants have been made in South Carolina and even today the production of BMW X5 and BMW Z4 is done. There are some plants in other places like Oxford and Goodwood. After a while BMW has begun assembling the production in South Africa. Today, BMW sold over 50 000 3 Series vehicles yearly to Japan, USA, Africa, Australia and the Middle East.
To serve the market in Eastern Europe and the Middle East BMW plans to begin construction of a new plant in Cyprus or Greece. A plant in Chennai, India has already opened production in 2007.
